The Springwells Village Collaborative includes these partners:
Bagley Housing, Bridging Communities, Cahalan Citizens, Greening of Detroit,
Neighborhood Centers Incorporated, Southwest Detroit Business Association,
Southwest Solutions, Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision
The Springwells Village Collaborative focuses resources to revitalize
our neighborhood more efficiently and effectively than would otherwise
happen working separately. We do this by:
• sharing information
• developing plans
(See attached plan in “Publications)
• applying for funding and other resources, and
• implementing projects jointly thereby sharing complementary expertise
and resources.
Springwells Village is a community of 21,000 residents in southwest Detroit. It has a life and character of its own. Housing development in the early 20th century enabled a large number of workers to own inexpensive homes near new factories in the area. The Village’s “downtown” along West Vernor Highway is thriving with many new businesses. The population is young and growing thanks largely to Hispanic immigration. Income is diverse. Vacant land offers opportunities for new housing, Parks and businesses. Demographics
The Collaborative is focusing on creating significant, large scale change, a neighborhood at a time, in the areas of: Housing, Parks, “Clean and Safe,” Economic Development, and Human Development. The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a major supporter of our community development planning and construction activities
Part of NCI's contribution to Springwells Village is its plan for "Building an Exciting Network of Parks in Springwells Village"
