Lafayette-NYCRR Playlot at 8118 W. Lafayette

Lafayette Before

Lafayette Playlot is a City of Detroit-owned park that had fallen into disrepair with a debris-filled informal alley running along one edge.  Weed trees along that edge displaced through traffic onto the park itself.  The park lost all of its play features and became a place for stripping cars.

NCI got permission from the City of Detroit to redevelop Lafayette Playlot and received major support from the Skillman Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, KaBOOM! and the Oscar Mayer’s Lunchables Division. Much support was also provided by The Greening of Detroit, City Year Detroit, Chrysler Financial, the Wayne County Treasurer, and Home Depot.  Designs for the new park were developed by architects working with community residents.  To see the
