current Projects
Our Park development projects for action over the next two to five years,
undertaken in collaboration with community residents, our partners in
the Springwells Development Collaborative, the Detroit Recreation Department,
Detroit Public Schools, and area businesses and local foundations:
In the Springdale neighborhood
• Consolidate our gains at All Saints Neighborhood Park with the
development of a community-based Garden club to nurture along the 9 theme
gardens of the Park and to more intensively develop the programming of
the Park.
• Create new resources with non-duplicative features that complement
those of our first Park:
-
• Redevelop the City-owned Lafayette-NYCRR Playlot on W. Lafayette.
• Build a short greenway that will penetrate ultra-long blocks and provide walkable access from Rathbone and Chamberlain streets to the Lafayette Playlot.
• Develop a mini Park in 2008 at Cahalan and Mullane to anchor proposed extensive new housing there.
In the adjacent Woodmere neighborhood
• Renovate the Weiss Park at 9215 Mandale across from historic Woodmere
Cemetery.
• Add a playing field for league sports at the south end of the
neighborhood as development progresses there in 2008-2010.
In the Phoenix neighborhood
• Transform the current playground at the Phoenix middle school
in our neighborhood into an intergenerational Park.
In the Clemente neighborhood
Provide minor improvements to the Roberto Clemente playground to facilitate
team sports.
